Down To Earth Energy

Recipient of Georgia’s first Federal Renewable Energy Grant, our goal is to model sustainable “green” energy production.  The biodiesel plant provides a domestic fuel alternative, a model for innovative energy use, and an educational space that demonstrates an effective approach to solving environmental problems.  Educational programs incorporating the biodiesel plant:
  • model active solar energy
  • demonstrate Green Chemistry
  • model sustainable land use
  • grow oil producing plants
  • demonstrate living off the electric grid
  • model the energy cycle
  • demonstrate soil and water conservation

Mission

Established in 2000, Down To Earth Foundation is a nonprofit organization designed to preserve the values of traditional agriculture and conservation. Our mission is to create an experiential education curriculum through which students learn a creative and rewarding approach to solving the interrelated problems of the environment. Focusing on four areas—renewable energy, public health, ecology, and agriculture—Down to Earth’s programs demonstrate the connections among these areas and provide hands-on learning for students of all ages.
